New International Version (NIV)
7 Whoever corrects a mocker invites insults;
whoever rebukes the wicked incurs abuse.
8 Do not rebuke mockers or they will hate you;
rebuke the wise and they will love you.
9 Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still;
teach the righteous and they will add to their learning.
10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
You see my Dad had some emotional issues and my mother had learned how to handle him. Sadly, it took her to an early grave. But part of why I am who I am today is because I DON’T want to end up like my mother. She internalized things and it took it’s toll on her. So I tend to address situations, but that is not always the best thing to do, especially when you are dealing with mockers. Mockers will attack you for bringing correction and rebuke.
That is why God has been saying to me “leave it alone”. But for some reason, I am drawn into stuff, because I think I am still naive, thinking I can help people when I really can’t. The last verse kind of sums it up. When someone finally comes to a place of fearing God, that is when wisdom begins. So you can talk until you are blue in the face. Until that person begins to FEAR GOD, leave it alone!
