About Commitment

Yesterday, I heard a message about commitment that blew my mind. I sat straight up as I listen to the message because I knew God wanted me hear this message because I know He is calling me to another level of commitment. The insight of this message was a confirmation of what God is saying.

I know I am a committed person. I am loyal and in a sense, once I know God has said something, I stick it out until the end. But recently, I went through something hard that made me pull back and I became less committed or maybe I should say distracted.  But God wants total and complete commitment to His will and His plan and to who He calls you to be committed to.

Often people are very committed to what benefits them. Oh yes, they are committed to their own career and promoting themselves or their family. But what about committing to what or whom GOD says commit to?

I saw myself in the message and started to feel a little overwhelmed until the minister started talking about reciprocity and then I understood what God was really saying. The reason my commitment was waning was because there was no reciprocity!!! It’s hard to stay committed when you are not receiving anything in return and that applies to God and man. It may not sound spiritual, but it’s the truth. Just imagine being in a relationship where you give all the time and get nothing in return?

I now understand why my commitment seems to be waning and maybe some of you can identify with this. But God knows what to do to reignite the fire under us and sometimes it just takes a little bit of reciprocity, whether it’s in a relationship, at a job, or even from the Him.

Struggling with your commitment? Ask God for what you need and He will give it to you.

Psalm 37:5

King James Version (KJV)

Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.

  1. This hit home with me. Gosh! I went through that recently with some friends. It was emotionally hard for me because I never want to be a doormat to anyone but when we have a calling on us, we must fulfill it. Jesus had a ministry and endured hardships. Even being alone and it took that while seeking comfort and wisdom from my husband to get pass my hurt and to not give up. People have been placed in our lives for a reason and perhaps a season. We are the salt of the earth. We have to go and do what we were called to do.

Thank you for this reminder as it encourages and strengthens me in the Lord when facing something like this again. God bless you!

    • Amen. When God calls us to something, we must hang in there even if we have to take a rest. He will renew our strength. It’s a blessing that you had your husband to lean on. Thanks for comment my sister. Blessings..!

  2. One of my favorite and most ‘quoted’ scriptures is “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, and the evidence of things unseen” I try to remember this when I seem to not be receiving much back, The evidence is not yet seen but my in faith it is still substantial as I hope for it in Him. 🙂 Another great post.
