Grateful Pt. 2

banner-black-nativity-film_1How was your holiday? I had a great day. My dinner was a hit and I have to say, I enjoyed my food! lol

I’ve cooked huge Thanksgiving dinners for decades now, but each time, I am always nervous and thankfully each time I always do a good job.  Whew!

After dinner, my host,  my sister and I went to see Black Nativity. I have to say, this is the second time this year that I felt like I was in church at the movie theater (The other time was when I went to see I’m in love with a church girl).

This movie is a must see for EVERYONE, not just African-Americans. I mean I felt like I left church as we walked out the theater. The movie is about family, faith and forgiveness. I promise you, you won’t be disappointed.

I had a great holiday!

Psalm 136:1

King James Version (KJV)

136 O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.

Happy!

happyIf I remember correctly, I spent last Thanksgiving alone and that was a bummer. But I made it through. This year, I am happy to be living where I am, in spite of the circumstance. It’s nice to live with someone and I NEVER want to live alone again.

So I have all of my food for my dinner, give or take a few items that I have to pick up today. The lady that I live with is so generous with her car, so I can run around when I need to. Tomorrow, we have errands and I’m going to get my Christmas decorations out of storage and pick up our movie tickets for the Black Nativity for Thanksgiving night. After dinner we are going to the movies because that’s what I want to do since Thanksgiving is also my birthday!don__t_worry_be_happy_by_don_amine-d365lw4

My sister is coming over for dinner and another neighbor, so I definitely won’t be alone. I’m just glad to be with people this holiday. I am definitely a people person. Tomorrow evening, I will start on my dinner. Not a big dinner. Just Turkey, stuffing, green beans, yams, apple pie and ice cream. Enough for us. My host keeps hinting for potato salad and or macaroni and cheese. We will see. Too much starch! Gotta watch those carbs for health, even on a holiday.

Tomorrow, I am going to see a movie as well. I saw the Hunger Games today. All of this for my birthday. Pre-celebration! God is good and I am happy! And I also feel like something GOOD is about to happen!

I’m so blessed! How about you?

Psalm 126:1

New International Version (NIV)

A song of ascents.

1 When the Lord restored the fortunes of[a] Zion,
we were like those who dreamed.[b]

Happy Holidays!

thanksgiving-dinner-table-hd-wallpapersI’m already in the mood for the Holidays. And no I don’t celebrate Halloween, but I am looking forward to Thanksgiving this year. When I looked up the date for Thanksgiving this year, I was pleasantly surprised to see that this Thanksgiving would also be my birthday! This happens every 6 years or so.

I’m going to be proactive and positive this year. For the last eight years I have been separated from the majority of family, but this year I hope to be near more family. I’m not going to lie though. My ideal Thanksgiving would be in my own kitchen (a big one) cooking for family and friends and maybe even a boyfriend. 😉

The lady who I am currently residing with has been eating good. I have been doing a lot of cooking, which is something I had not been doing too much of until I moved here. But honestly, I enjoy cooking so much and I don’t mean to brag, but I am a good home cook. I’ve been cooking Thanksgiving dinners since I was a teenager. I took over the cooking from my mom, years ago. She was tired of cooking and I took the crown. I don’t mean to be a downer, but once you lose your mother, it seems your holiday’s are NEVER the same. But that is why I want to create my own memories.

To me holiday’s are about family, friends and love! I pray that everyone will have a joy filled Holiday season! And love your family!

1 Corinthians 13:4-6

New International Version (NIV)

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.

Listen to the Stop Signs

stopI didn’t want to share this story, but I think it may help someone. Recently, God has dealt with me through stop signs. Yes, stop signs. There are times when I am out and about and I don’t notice any stop signs, but then there are times when it seems like everywhere I look I see a stop sign.

Recently, right before Thanksgiving I was on my way to the store to get my food for the Thanksgiving holiday  and I was not going to be with family, but I still always cook my dinner anyway. On my way to the store, everywhere I looked I noticed stop signs. And no, I was not driving. I kind of felt like the Lord was telling me not to buy food for the holiday, but I rationalized it away.

Meanwhile, those of you who read my blog regularly know I took in a tenant. Well he did not pay his rent and I had to let him go. Then my childcare income dried up for nearly two weeks (I only have one child right now) and suddenly my income was gone. My electric bill was due and I had electricity on borrowed time.

So I’m on my way to the store, and I brought my groceries (not enough to pay the bill and I have to eat) and by the time I left the house and got home, my lights were off. Yes, no electricity, which meant no refrigerator, which meant, I just brought a bunch of food that would probably spoil. That is why God was telling me to stop. (duh).

Well I had a huge bag of ice in my freezer and I put everything that I could in the freezer and then thankfully, my neighbor let me store the food in her refrigerator. But even in that, I learned a valuable lesson.

When God says STOP he means it. He sees something we don’t see. It didn’t make sense to me, after all it was Thanksgiving and I wanted a dinner just like everyone else and I thought I “surely they won’t cut my power now”, but they did.

So the moral of the story is LISTEN TO GOD especially when He says STOP!

1 Samuel 15:22

Amplified Bible (AMP)

22 Samuel said, Has the Lord as great a delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.
