Modesty is a word that is not used today, especially in describing the women of today. When I looked up the word the definition is: regard for decency in behavior, speech and dress etc. Boy, is that lacking today!
On Memorial Day, I watched several videos of one particular artist and honestly I knew her work was immodest, but I can see she has gotten worse. Her latest video can only be classified as “soft-core porn” in my opinion. Not to be critical, but recently I heard that the First Lady allows her daughters to follow this artist. Not a good idea in my opinion, because of the artists poor example. Does anything go just because one is in the entertainment business?
I was also looking at another more mature, established, very well-known artist on a red carpet and was shocked to see her with a see-through top showing her undergarments. It was really sad to see. But I suppose that is to be expected from the world.
What God expects is for Godly women, not to take their examples from the world. Many Christian women feel pressure to look like the world because they feel like they have to compete. Sadly, these worldly examples are what some Christian men desire, also.
Modesty is a good thing. A women can cause a man to stumble by her lack of modesty. God sanctions modesty and you can be both attractive and modest at the same time. And ladies remember, you don’t want a man who desires worldly woman anyway. So let your goal be to please God is your attire and image, yes even in 2010.
1 Timothy 2:9
I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold and pearls or expensive clothes, but with good deeds appropriate for women who profess to worship God.
