A Firm Foundation

foundationSometimes when I see and hear things that professed Christians say about their faith, it makes me so glad that I received a firm foundation in the Word. Many do not have that. What I find today is that Christianity is mixed with a lot of other stuff and It’s really sad.

My background is in the Baptist Church and traditional Baptist Churches are just that; traditional. But my brother went away to college and was exposed to the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and we all followed suit. And I sat under that brother for 14 years as he was my Pastor.

Even today, almost everyone of the members of the church who I run into or come across on Facebook, talks about the firm foundation my brother gave them, in the Word of God. You see that is the basis of the Christian faith. Sadly many have not mastered the elementary things of Christ.

Here are some of them: Salvation, Holy Spirit Baptism, Water Baptism, Studying the Word, Attending church, attending Bible study, attending prayer meeting (most churches don’t even have them).

It was through doing these things, that I received my foundation in faith and started to grow in grace. Of course a forgotten tool is fasting along with prayer and years ago, we used to go to all-night prayer and some of us used to do weekend shut-ends in the church. You talk about power!!

Today, the church is filled with a positive thinking gospel, mediation, and positive affirmation and all kinds of crazy stuff that is not of God. People dip and dab in witchcraft and then they wonder why they can’t be delivered.

We need to get back to the basics. You can’t live the Christian life on your own terms. You must follow God on HIS terms and that starts by reading and studying the Word of God.

I know I come on strong. But it’s part of my ministry. I received my call from Jeremiah 1 and he had to do some hard things. And guess what? This is love! It’s sad that Christians are so wimpy that they can’t discern that truth is love, even when it doesn’t feel good. Those types of Christians  are babies. People who coddle you are often doing you a disservice. If the bridge is out, why lie and tell you everything is going to be alright? If the bridge is out, I want someone to tell me to get it together and go in the opposite direction. The gospel doesn’t always make you feel good, but it’s good for you.

Lord, we need a firm foundation!

2 Peter 3:18

New International Version (NIV)

18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.
