Joseph Knows!

Mary and JosephI love the story of Mary and Joseph and how Mary had a visitation from the angel Gabriel telling her that she was the one who would carry Jesus. I can so identify with this story because Mary was ostracized for a while, when she did nothing wrong except say yes to God.

Mary must have been heart-broken when Joseph decided to put her away because he did not believe her. I’m sure Mary was viewed as “nutty” and I’m sure Joseph talked about her and everyone else did too. Mary had to carry her vision alone for a while until God spoke to Joseph.

I wonder, did Joseph run to her after he received his visitation about Mary? In his case he was probably happy. Even though it was an arranged marriage, maybe he had started to have feelings for Mary. I can imagine how Mary felt. FINALLY, she was believed!! After being disbelieved, now JOSEPH KNEW!!

If a vision from God includes two people, eventually God is going to reveal it to the one that is unsure. And even if one is still having a hard time accepting it after it’s been revealed, I personally would just be relieved that the other party knew. Even if that person needs time to process it and get untangled from something else, I would just be happy that “Joseph knows”.

God told me this recently and now I understand why God told me that I will need to have an extraordinary amount of patience. Just because someone knows doesn’t mean the circumstance will change overnight. It’s all a process and it will take a little bit of time, but that is okay, just as long as Joseph knows!!

Matthew 1:18-21

New International Version (NIV)

Joseph Accepts Jesus as His Son

18 This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about[a]: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit. 19 Because Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yet[b] did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly.

20 But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus,[c] because he will save his people from their sins.”
