Prophetic Backlash

When God calls us to a ministry, he will equip us and through time and experience we learn more and more about our calling. I know God called me through Jeremiah 1, which is the prophetic call. I’ve studied this ministry for a while and been trained by the very best. I’m not perfect, but seasoned enough to understand what is going on.

This evening God dropped a word in my spirit for someone and they rejected it. I was not moved because I knew it was from God. But the person got all out of character. I also, had been going back in forth about this persons true identity. I knew there was something that was not quite right. But as soon as this word came forth, all hell broke loose. That is called prophetic backlash.

I remember my prophetic mentor shared with us that when you give a word, especially a hard one, get ready for the backlash. It happens often and trust me it’s not easy sometimes. But I understood what was happening.

Funny how people believe they can fool prophetic people. If you are dealing with people with an accurate gift, there really is no fooling them. Often, I will just let the person play the game and go along with it, all along knowing the truth of the situation. I can’t tell you how many time’s I’ve done that. But when God says uncover it, I will.

God will always uncover deception. He abhors it and when you deceive and play with the prophetic, and his prophets.  Trust me, there will be a penalty. Do you know there is a scripture where 42 children died for making fun of God’s prophet?

2 Kings 2:23-24

New Living Translation (NLT)

23 Elisha left Jericho and went up to Bethel. As he was walking along the road, a group of boys from the town began mocking and making fun of him. “Go away, baldy!” they chanted. “Go away, baldy!” 24 Elisha turned around and looked at them, and he cursed them in the name of the Lord. Then two bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of them.

  1. Amen Sistah I going through that right now I so ready to give a piece of my mind but God said Wait and he knows what’s best for me.

  2. I too have dealt with this situation on many occasions. Anyone can jump up and down and turn on you when they dont like a prophetic word, but you can be assured God will not allow them to live a moment of peace if they ignore the word. Yet for us the peace comes once we speak the word. I also got the Jeremiah prophesy calling some years ago. His words are like fire that burns in my bones. I have no choice but to say them. Amen!

      • Very true, The other thing is to descern every insight and ensure we get confirmation in 2 or more places. Once we have that we can obey with confidence. Many false prophets I have met over the years had no idea they were false. They honestly believed they heard from God and caused more trouble and destruction of faith than you can imagine. Those signs keep me sane too 🙂

      • I think ones own track record speaks for itself. A true prophet will check their record. I remember getting a very hard word for a relative about his mate. He took the word to my mentor and I was labeled false. Because I am a seer, often I see things far in advance. Well the word came to pass many years later. Once the word given manifests, you know you are not false. Now I am unaffected by being called false. I know my own track record. I personally always check and have not been called false for years until yesterday actually. lol

      • Don’t worry about those who label us false. They will if they don’t like what they hear. I have been called a laughing stock, false, had many family and friends turn on me, and had my prophesies completely opposed and told they are the reason I have had to struggle through my difficulties. Like I was being punished for saying that I had a word from God. I am amazed by my own track record and find it amazing that I can be used in this special way. God will reveal ALL in His good time and we have nothing to fear except our own deception. Stay vigilant and true to God’s path. We can rejoice together here and in the next place for being instruments of God! Amen!

  3. I hear you my dear. I was just thinking about this subject but with a different slant. I have a problem with Christians who claim to be prophetic yet they willfully deceive others as though the Holy Spirit does not speak to those people as well. I look at them like, ”Hello! I have discernment too!”

  4. This was a really helpful post. I’ve had the same situation in a past church and it’s painful. I was told to repent and have not had any prophetic words for a church since then. Praying God will unblock it when he needs to. I think the key to prophecy is to share and then let it go. We are only the messenger. My prayer for myself and all of you you faithful prophets is to trust, trust, trust God in all things. It’s so hard when you feel a burden to have it ‘backlashed’ but it is not our responsibility and we have to hand it back to him. blessings

    • Amen. I agree totally. However, “backlash” is when something comes back on prophet from being obedient. Dictionary.com defines backlash as: a strong or violent reaction, as to some social or political change. So the backlash is really about the reactions from others. It has nothing to do with the prophet having a burden to have it “backlashed” as you shared. Thanks for commenting! I am preparing a part two to give even more insight.:-)

  5. Yes spiritual backlash is alive and well! I love explaining this because I get to quote my Dad and it is where Science confirms God! Amen. “The law of attraction in science states that for every action there is an opposite and equal reaction.”

Every time I have evidence of gaining ground for God through obedience, the enemy sets out to attack me and those I love in many spiritual areas. It is so well hidden because he hides behind things we see everyday. Lets take a couple of example, If money is a concern we focus on our finances for a bit, while we focus on one area he can get in another way, A family member may turn to us or on us due to a heavy emotional problem, then we get sick or emotional ourselves and we have a bad day at work, The kids are trying our patience more than ever, the traffic is worse than you can ever remember, a random stranger responds badly to us for no reason, we burn the dinner, our favourite shows are cancelled or moved time slots. All to attack us yet distract us from his attack at the same time. If we stopped focusing on all the small areas one at a time, and focused our Godly defenses against the enemy in entirety, we would see much more improvement to our situation. We are well equipped, we just need discernment to know where the fight is happening!
