God’s Progressive Will

I’m back and I see why I had to be on a brief hiatus. Sometimes this blog is therapeutic for me, but often I say things prematurely.

There have been times, when I regretted putting certain things on this blog. But when I think about it, if you read it on a regular basis, you can see a true struggle to discern the will and timing of God and follow His voice. But I’m also learning that God’s Will is progressive. That means with each day, your insight grows and things change on your journey.

As you all know I have been going back and forth about a geographical move for years now and I recently made the decision to move. Well last Sunday morning something peculiar happened. When I went to church I got a strong sense that something had changed and that I would still be at my church for a while longer. By the time I got home, I got another sense of the same thing. As I unlocked my front door, I got the sense that I would be in my house for a while longer. By the evening something seemed to confirm what I was sensing and then I asked God some questions. Then the Lord reminded me of a dream I had last year with a date in it and that was confirmed just this morning.

So what does God’s “progressive will” mean? I remember years ago hearing a minister say “check your mailbox, there is a new  memo.” Sometimes the journey changes according to the circumstance. God saw my willingness to go, but He also knows things I don’t know, so the new memo said “still not quite yet.” Perhaps this last announcement from God was a test my willingness.

The word progressive means: To change, improve or reform; making progress toward better conditions; employing or advocating more enlightened. God can change the plan to make it better. Not His ultimate will, but the path moving toward it.

I know it seems odd, but God knows what needs to take place before His plan can come to pass. So if an adjustment is needed, God knows better than us. So do I still have God’s vision? Absolutely. In fact I still plan to take a trip at the end of the month. But I’m also checking my mailbox daily, just in case there is a new instruction.
