Beware of words of flattery

Beware of people who use words of flattery to win you.  Ten times out of ten they want something. People often flatter folks in order to get something from them. And some people are more vulnerable to that than others.

I have learned that sometimes people study and target people to get what they want whether it be a job, money, notoriety and they will say whatever they need to, in order to get to what they want. It’s a dangerous and manipulative practice.

The Bible is clear about this. I’d rather have someone to tell me the truth rather than to make me feel good.

 Psalm 12:2:

2They speak vanity every one with his neighbour: with flattering lips and with a double heart do they speak.

 Proverbs 7:21:

21With her much fair speech she caused him to yield, with the flattering of her lips she forced him.

Psalm 12:3:

3The LORD shall cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that speaketh proud things:

Proverbs 6 : 23-24

23For the commandment is a lamp, and the whole teaching [of the law] is light, and reproofs of discipline are the way of life,(G)

24To keep you from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a loose woman.

 1 Thessalonians 2 : 3-5

3For our appeal [in preaching] does not [originate] from delusion or error or impure purpose or motive, nor in fraud or deceit.

4But just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the glad tidings (the Gospel), so we speak not to please men but to please God, Who tests our hearts [[a]expecting them to be approved].

5For as you well know, we never resorted either to words of flattery or to any cloak to conceal greedy motives or pretexts for gain, [as] God is our witness.
